About Theodia
What is Theodia?
Theodia is an offline Bible study app for iOS and Android. It bundles more than a dozen Bible translations, commentaries, lexicons, cross-references, study books, devotionals, and hymn lyrics directly on your device so you can read and study anywhere — even without an internet connection.
Who makes Theodia?
Theodia is published by Ecodia LLC, a company integrating technology and faith.
Do I need an account or subscription?
No. Theodia does not require an account, login, email address, or subscription. You download the app, open it, and start reading.
Bibles & Content
Which Bible translations are included?
The app ships with thirteen translations, including the King James Version (KJV), KJV with Apocrypha, KJV with Strong's numbers, the World English Bible (WEB), Benner's Study Bible (BSB), the New English Translation (NET), the Lexham English Bible (LEB), the UnfoldingWord Literal and Simplified Texts (ULT and UST), a Hebrew interlinear (OHGB), and the Macula Hebrew dataset (MIB). Lithuanian readers also get TRLIT and TRLITx.
Can I add more Bibles or commentaries?
Yes. The app can download additional Bibles, commentaries, and study books from our growing library. As of today there are more than sixty-five translations, sixty-five commentaries, and nearly three hundred books available. Everything installs directly onto your device.
Does Theodia include non-English Bibles?
Yes. The interface itself supports fourteen languages, and the bundled translations include texts in Hebrew, Greek, and Lithuanian. You can also install additional translations from the library.
What other content ships with the app?
Beyond Bibles, the app includes two classic commentaries (Matthew Henry and Adam Clarke), five lexicons for word study, cross-references for every verse, two devotional books (Heinrich von Bogatzky's Golden Treasury and Smith's Believer's Daily Remembrance), and over two thousand hymn lyrics. All of it works offline.
Devices & Platforms
Which devices and operating systems are supported?
Theodia runs on iOS and Android phones and tablets. It is not currently available on the web or desktop.
Does Theodia work on tablets?
Yes. Theodia is fully optimized for tablets, with a side-by-side reading layout and larger study panels that take advantage of the extra screen space.
Does the app work without an internet connection?
Yes — that is the point of Theodia. Every Bible, commentary, lexicon, and book is stored locally on your device. You can read, search, bookmark, and take notes on a plane, in a basement, or anywhere signal does not reach. The only features that need internet are the optional AI assistant (if you configure it to use a remote service) and downloading new content from the library.
How much storage space does Theodia need?
The bundled content is roughly two gigabytes. You can install additional Bibles, books, and even local AI models, so the total size depends on how much you choose to add.
Study Tools
What study tools are built in?
Theodia includes commentaries, lexicons, cross-references, word-level morphology, parallel Bible view, verse comparison across translations, full-text search, and a distraction-free Focus Mode for reading. All of these work offline.
What are Strong's numbers and lexicons?
Strong's numbers are a standard numbering system for Hebrew and Greek words. When you read a Bible that includes them, you can tap any word to see its original-language form, pronunciation, English meaning, grammar details, and related dictionary entries — all without leaving the app.
How do cross-references work?
Every verse is linked to related verses across the Bible. Tap a cross-reference to see the full text of the related passage, then follow its cross-references in turn. It is a dense, navigable web of connections designed for deep study.
Can I search the Bible?
Yes. You can search by word or phrase across any installed translation, with optional book-range filtering. Results appear as you type, and your search history is saved for quick re-use.
Bookmarks, Notes & Highlights
Can I bookmark or highlight verses?
Yes. You can bookmark any verse and organize your bookmarks into folders (for example, "Sermon Prep" or "Comfort"). You can also highlight verses with different colors to mark themes or passages you want to revisit.
Can I take notes in the app?
Yes. You can create two kinds of notes. A verse note is anchored to a specific verse, so the note stays attached to that passage no matter where you read it. A study note is a free-form document in a notebook you organize yourself, useful for sermon prep or topical studies.
Is my data backed up or synced across devices?
Theodia does not sync data to the cloud. Your bookmarks, highlights, and notes live on your device. If you get a new phone, you can export your data to a file and import it on the new device.
Can I export my bookmarks and notes?
Yes. You can export bookmarks, highlights, and notes to a file or copy them to the clipboard. This lets you bring them into your sermon notes, your favorite note-taking app, or any other workflow.
Theophilus AI Assistant
What is Theophilus?
Theophilus is an optional AI study assistant built into Theodia. You can ask it questions in plain language — look up a verse, summarize a chapter, compare translations, search cross-references, look up a Greek word, or even create a bookmark or write a study note. It is wired into the same offline data the rest of the app uses, so it queries the actual Bible text and lexicons rather than guessing from memory.
Do I have to use the AI?
No. The AI is entirely optional and turned off by default. Theodia works fully as a Bible study app with the AI disabled.
How do I set up the AI assistant?
If you choose to use it, you provide your own AI service details in Settings. Theophilus works with any OpenAI-compatible provider, including OpenAI, OpenRouter, or a self-hosted server. You enter the service URL and your API key, and the app connects directly. There is no Theodia-branded AI service you have to subscribe to.
Does the AI cost extra?
Theodia itself does not charge for AI use. If you choose to connect to a paid AI provider (like OpenAI or OpenRouter), you pay that provider directly according to their pricing. You can also run a free local model on your own computer and connect to it.
Can the AI run without internet?
Yes, if you download a Bible-specialized language model within the app. Once the model is on your device, Theophilus can answer questions without any network connection at all. This is ideal if you want the AI feature but never want your reading history to leave your phone.
Privacy & Data
Does Theodia collect my personal data?
No. Theodia does not collect usage data, does not include analytics, does not track you, and does not include advertising. There is no crash reporter that phones home. Your reading and study activity stays on your device.
Where are my notes and bookmarks stored?
All your bookmarks, highlights, notes, AI conversation history, downloaded Bibles, and downloaded models are stored locally in the app's private storage on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers because we do not operate servers for user data.
Does the app include ads or tracking?
No. There are no ads and no tracking SDKs in Theodia.
Customization
Can I change the font size or theme?
Yes. You can choose between light, dark, and sepia themes, adjust font size and weight, and enable a high-contrast option for outdoor reading. The app also respects your system's accessibility text-size setting.
Does Theodia support dark mode?
Yes. Dark mode is built in and can be set manually or follow your system's setting.
Can I read in Hebrew or Greek?
Yes. Theodia includes Hebrew interlinear texts and Greek resources. When you open a Hebrew Bible, the text automatically switches to right-to-left layout, and you can tap individual words to see the original form, transliteration, gloss, and grammar details.
Can I set which screen opens when I launch the app?
Yes. In Settings you can choose your startup screen — Home, Bibles, a specific verse, Books, Devotionals, or the AI assistant — so the app opens exactly where you want it every time.
